Zella Rose Smith, a cherished resident of LaGrange, Kentucky, passed away on September 17, 2024, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that touched the lives of many.

Born on March 25, 1944, in Point Pleasant, KY, Zella was a bright and determined woman who would go on to become a graduate of Eminence High School in 1961. Her dedication to her community was evident throughout her career as the City Clerk for the City of La Grange, where she served with commitment and integrity. Her proudest accomplishment was the role she played in public service, where she made a significant impact on the lives of those she served.

Zella was known not just for her professional contributions, but for the warmth and devotion she shared with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Melvin (Dave) Smith, a loving mother to her daughter, Mary Lohr. Her life was enriched with the joyful personality and radiant smiles of her grandson, Caleb Lohr, who brought her immense pride and happiness. Zella was more than just a mother and grandmother; she was the heart of her family, always ready with a kind word or a listening ear.

Her agile spirit extended beyond her family, shaping lifelong friendships that exemplified loyalty and support. Zella found joy in gathering with loved ones, creating an inviting atmosphere where laughter and love flourished. She discovered a second family at Paul Mitchell Schools, where her relationships blossomed into meaningful connections that she cherished deeply.

Zella's vibrant personality created a welcoming haven for her family and friends. She was a compassionate soul, dedicated not only to her work but also to nurturing the bonds that brought joy to her life. Her love and kindness resonated within her community, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Zella was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mary C. Collins and Carl Collins, whose love and guidance shaped her into the remarkable woman she became.

The family invites those whose lives were touched by Zella to celebrate her memory during the visitation on September 23, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by an additional visitation on September 24, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held on September 24, 2024, beginning at 11:00 AM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243, burial will follow at Kentucky Veteran Cemetery Central, at 1:30pm. 

While Zella Rose Smith may no longer be physically with us, her remarkable spirit will forever remain in our hearts, a testament to her unwavering love, strength, and commitment to family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
