Windzell Thomas, 76, of New Albany passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Windzell was a member of Jones Memorial AME Zion Church in New Albany. Active in his community, he was a co-founder of the William O. Vance Boys and Girls Club and a former member of the New Albany Optimist Club. Many people will remember his employment over the years at John B. Mitchell Clothing Store, Stein's Shoe Store, the Sanitation Department of New Albany as superintendent, and Jim Butner Auto Sales.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Posley) Thomas; children, Eric Windzell Thomas, Portia Miles (Clark), Kelley Guess (Daniel); grandchildren, Eric Thomas Cook, Reginald Wheeler (Lynn), Daniel Guess, Jr., Ryan Wheeler (Michelle), Jourdain Moore, Sr., Zonia Conley Dimitri Miles, Kelsey Guess and Kameron Guess; and four great grandchildren; sisters, Myra Moody (Evansville, IN), Dolores Luster, Phyllis McDonald, and Georgia Helen Thomas; special brother-in-law, Richard (Dickie) Posley; and adoring nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and several sisters and brothers.
The family extends special gratitude to Floyd Memorial Cancer Care and Mercy Providence Rehabilitation Staff.
His Visitation will be from 12 to 8 PM on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and from 10 to 11 AM on Monday at Jones Memorial AME Zion Church (258 Ealy Street, New Albany). A Celebration of Memories will take place from 5:30 to 7 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. His Funeral Service is 11 AM at the church followed by burial at Westhaven Cemetery in New Albany.
