Wilma Martha Crowder Thompson, 89, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Wilma was a graduate of LaGrange High School in 1951. She then moved to Valley Station in 1951, where she worked at Belknap Hardware from 1951-1956. She started back to work in 1967 for Jefferson County Public Schools at Trunnel Elementary as a teachers aid. In 1978 she transferred to the Board of Education in data processing and retired in 2006 as OAS Administrator/Secretary for Management Information Systems.
Concurrently, she worked her "hobby job" from 1996-2015 at Hancock Fabrics in sales, contributing as a master seamstress and providing hand sewn garments for the store to display.
Wilma was a secretary and a member of the Board of Directors, Classroom Teachers Federal Credit Union. In 1989 she received the President's Award for outstanding service on the Building Committee and again in 1993 she won the President's Award for overall outstanding service and dedication. Wilma received the Champion for Children's Award in 2003. She attended South Jefferson and Ridgewood Baptist Churches and served as the Women's Missionary Union President for several years at Ridgewood.
Wilma was born on December 2, 1933 in LaGrange, Kentucky to Holbart and Lura Etta (Dallas) Crowder. She is preceded in death by her parents, Son, David E. Thompson, and 8 Siblings.
Wilma is survived by her loving family, Children, Louetta E. Combs, Ernest P. (Samantha) Thompson II, and Terese T. (Harry) Nealy; Grandchildren, Stephen Combs II, Alison Combs, Arden Combs, Eric Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Shane Smiddy, Wayne Nealy, and David Nealy; 8 Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Joann (Jay) Emery, Niece, Shirley Culotta, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends to cherish her memory forever.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 with her Funeral Service to begin at 1:00 pm, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
Wilma's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
