William Phillip Staten, 82, of Louisville, KY and Gallatin, TN was called home by God on June 15, 2024. “Billy”, as he was known by most, lived a full and accomplished life. Billy was an Air Force veteran, Tennessee State University graduate and long-term employee of Brown-Forman and Jefferson County Public Schools. Billy is well-known for both his work ethic and generosity and has been recognized by Brown-Forman for over 40 years of employment and exemplary service and received the Louisville Special Forces Award for 20 years of volunteer service to Louisville Athletics.
Billy is survived by his wife, Margit Staten; his two sons, William and Anthony Staten; his stepdaughter Jacqueline (Mitchell) Sellner; two grandchildren Taran Wilson and Lauryn (Zachary) Mechura; his brother, Leonard (Helen) Staten, sister-in-law, Celestine (Bobby) Staten and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Montjoy and Vivian Williams Staten; sisters, Constance Gray, Vivian Trudeaux, Phyllis Berry Alexander, and Suzanne Williams; brothers Preston Montjoy, Gilbert and Bobby Staten; special aunts Queen Ola Staten, Ocenia Staten Bennett and Kathleen Logan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 starting at 11:00 at Newcomer Funeral Homes, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Dr. Louisville, KY 40243.
