William Henry "Hank" Sedgwick III, 78, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. He was born on October 15, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky. Hank was a graduate of Valley High School, U of L, and UNC Greensboro. He was a creative writing teacher, technical writer, and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Hank retired from the United States Army as a Master Sergeant after 28 years of service.
Hank is survived by his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Elizabeth (Fultz) Sedgwick; son, Ernest; daughter, Emily; grandchildren, William and Ellis Finley (Shannon); great-grandchildren, Ellis, Jr., and Iris; sister, Sara Deetsch (Steve); nephews, Ben and Matt Deetsch; his great friends, Ned Arter and Wayne and Karen Jarrell; and many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Sedgwick, Jr., and Virginia Sedgwick; and his childhood friend, Bill Segrest.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). He will be laid to rest at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
