William S. Phillips Sr., was born to William E. and Ella Ree Phillips in Leitchfield, KY on September 1, 1935. Affectionately known by all as Teddy, He was a honest hardworking, giving and kind man who worked several jobs to take care of his family. He attended St. Augustine Catholic elementary and was a graduate of Catholic High in Louisville, Ky. He soon joined the United States navy and married the love of his life Shirley Lee in 1955, from that union they had six children.
He was employed with Frito Lay for 40 years and even after retirement he worked several jobs just to stay busy. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Michael Phillips, a sister Denise Gray, granddaughters Tonya Scott, Ariyah Phillips, and Joliyah Phillips, son in-law Terezz Cureton.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Shirley Lee, one son William Jr., (Jackie), 8 daughters Tanya McFadden (Joe), Cynthia Scott, Lori Moore, Janet Powell (Harvey), LaDonna Cowden, Ashley Phillips, Whitney Cureton, Britney Phillips. 36 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. One brother James Phillips (Cincinnati, Ohio) Four Sisters , Shirley Duncan, LaDonna Branch, Rosemary Jones and Darlene Weathers and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial gathering will take place from 4-8pm on Saturday, October 7th at St. Augustine Catholic Church Reception Hall (1310 W Broadway, Louisville KY 40203). He will be laid to rest with military honors at 2:30pm on Monday, October 9th at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, Ky.
