William Edward Kannapel, 92, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022. Edward was a proud veteran of the United States Army, who served as an MP. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid bowler. He retired from Jeff Boat as a welder after many years. He was a huge Atlanta Braves and IU fan. He was a faithful supporter of Boys Town, the Humane Society, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the VFW. Edward will be remembered for always having a good story to tell.
He was born on April 26, 1930, in Corydon, Indiana, to the late Roy and Elsie (McKim) Kannapel. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Kannapel; son, William Edward Kannapel, Jr.; siblings, Richard, Joe, Wilbur, Robert, Paul, Elizabeth, and Louise; and daughter-in-law, Candace Kannapel.
Edward is survived by his sons, Rickie Kannapel, Doug Kannapel, and Tim Kannapel; daughter, Shelia (Bobby) Paschal; sisters, Thelma (Elmar) Hicks and Margaret Burkhart; 9 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and his faithful canine companion, Roscoe.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at New Albany National Cemetery.
