William Joseph Cash, Jr. (Bill) unexpectedly passed from this life on November 28, 2010 at the age of 63.
Bill Cash was born on July 28, 1947 to the union of Dorothy Haycraft Cash and William Joseph Cash, their first born child. Bill was predeceased by his father, William Joseph Cash, whom he also lost too young, to heart disease. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Haycraft Cash Capps and his step-father, Hayden Capps, his son, William (Andy) Cash (Amy). He was big brother to three sisters who survive him: Linda Priddy (Albert); Joyce Cash; and Paula Cash. He leaves behind nieces and nephews who cherish their memories of his kindness and generosity: Anna Lynn (Joseph), Steven, and Angela Priddy, Jaime Bilbrey (Benjamin), and Jenna Smialek.
Bill Cash was born and raised in Louisville. He graduated from Durrett High School in 1966, and, following the example of his father, who served admirably in World War II, enlisted as a U.S. Marine and served in the Vietnam era. His was the highest scorer in his recruiting class and he served with distinction. Following his service, he returned to Louisville and began working at General Electric. He was at GE for 39 years before retiring in 2008, demonstrating a strong work ethic instilled in him by his mother and father. He attended Western Kentucky University and Watterson College.
Always a person of many interests, he was a softball player in many Louisville leagues, bowler, an avid reader, collector, and hobbyist. He knew a great deal about many topics, particularly sports and military history. In recent years he had enjoyed reunions with fellow Marines. After his retirement, Bill took to exploring Louisville by bus and by foot, walking long distances and visiting new places, especially coffee shops where he could read, and meeting people on these small adventures. He was proud of his ability to navigate the city in this way and how fit he became in doing so. He had planned to take classes in history and painting and to collect his own memories in the form of a book.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 pm Friday, December 3, 2010 in the Chapel of Newcomer Funeral Home.
