William Henry Roberts, 95, passed from this life into the arms of his Lord on Friday, January 24, 2014. He was known as "Wild Bill," but was a gentle and peaceable man always serving God and preaching to his family members to the end. He was a Navy veteran that proudly served his country during WWII. Bill was a member of the Church of Christ in New Albany and served as an elder for several years at Silver Street.
Bill was born on October 19, 1918 in New Albany to the late John David and Lilly Mae (Spencer) Roberts. He was also preceded in death by his son, Larry D. Roberts; and siblings, Evelyn Allen, Robert Johnson and Freda Lenz.
He is survived by his wife of over 73 years, Wanita (Conway) Roberts; children, Patricia Hoke (Paul), Lonnie Roberts, Yvonne Koransky (Ralph), Wendy Roberts (Cynthia); grandchildren, Jason Hoke (Melanie), Jeffrey Hoke (Kim), Jerold Hoke (Kim), Rachel Matson (Jason), Rebecca Koransky, great-grandchildren, Jessica Shirley (Mike), Taylor, Michaela, Haleigh, Brayden, Audrey, James, Hunter Hoke, Jason David Matson;, great-great-grandchildren, Mikey and Jasmine Shirley; and numerous good family friends.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 PM on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Tuesday after 10 AM at Charlestown Road Church of Christ (4601 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN 47150). His Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM at the church with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
The family wishes to extend a kind thanks to Alexis Chatburn, nurses Meagan, Jen, and April for their love of care for Bill over the past several weeks.
