William "Bill" Fluhr, a beloved member of the Louisville community, was born on December 18, 1928, in Louisville, Kentucky. He passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to God, his family, career, and community.
Bill was a dedicated and industrious individual who made significant contributions throughout his life. After graduating from Valley High School in 1947 he embarked on a career journey that began as the owner/operator of Fluhr's Auto Salvage on Dixie Hwy. In 1969, he transitioned into the realm of real estate, where he excelled for many years and became well-known for his commitment and achievements, earning the title of Realtor of the Year while with Coldwell Banker. After retiring from his real estate business he worked for Enterprise Rental Car up until January, 2021.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was known for his warm and gentle personality. He was a wonderful husband to his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy Jean Fluhr. As a father, he demonstrated unwavering support, patience, and kindness to his children: Sherry Troutman (Steve), Michele Landberg (Rick), Kim Mello (Kevin), Michael Wolchik (Jenny), Mark Wolchik (Susan), and Traci Plonski (Brian). He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Erin, Stacey, Cody, Cassidy, Tiffany, Stacy, Becky, Stephanie, Dylan, Dalton, Taylor, Emma, and Will, as well as a cherished great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Vaughn (Elvis), along with many nieces and nephews.
In his personal life, Bill was a man of varied interests. A passionate pilot, he cherished the time spent flying in his private plane. He was a true jack of all trades, skilled in fixing and building just about anything. Bill had a sincere love for working with people, and he and Nancy enjoyed traveling and gathering with friends for game nights. His dedication to service was evident through his numerous affiliations, as he was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Louisville Chamber of Commerce, and the Louisville Home Builders Association. Bill also served as Past President of the Plainview Residents Association and Past Chairman of the Board at Camden Ave Christian Church. Furthermore, he dedicated four years to the Kentucky Auto Dealers Association, showcasing his commitment to improving his community.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Florine Fluhr; his brother, Randy Fluhr; and his first wife, lolene Knox Fluhr.
A visitation honoring Bill's life will be held on August 31, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Westport Road Baptist Church located at 9705 Westport Rd, Louisville, KY 40241. This will be followed immediately by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
The legacy of Bill Fluhr will live on through the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
