William L. "Bill" Dukes, 80, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 9, 2023, surrounded by his family. Bill was a graduate of Butler High School and the University of Louisville. He was a member of Northside Christian Church and a proud veteran of the United States Army. He worked in the energy field his entire career. His greatest joys were boating with his wife and friends, spending time with his children and grandchildren while following their many activities, and cheering on the Indiana Hoosiers.
He was born on July 1, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late J.W. and Sara "Billie" (Cobb) Dukes. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Vicki (Johns) Dukes; mother-in-law, Jean Johns; and brother-in-law, Joey Johns.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Diana Dukes; daughters, Jolie (Dennie) Jenkins and Sallie (Clint) Diers; grandchildren, Devin (Kassie) Jenkins, Gabbi Jenkins, Cole Diers, Evan Diers, and Zoe Diers; great-grandchildren, Wrenley Jenkins and Saylor Jenkins; bonus daughters, Shannon (Claude) Walther and Stacey Walther; bonus grandchildren, Brooklynn (Brayden) Lander, Koryn Smedley, Jack Crosby, and Kate Crosby; siblings, Donna Cecil (Jimmy), Carolyn Grant (Jack), and Steve Dukes (Janet); the Dukes Clan; his father-in-law, Joe Johns; and the doggie doodle's he patiently tolerated.
Cremation was chosen following Bill's wishes. A visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest privately at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
