William "Dink" Detenber

William "Dink" Detenber, born on April 10, 1940, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 12, 2025, in Birdseye, Indiana. He was a dedicated individual who worked in maintenance for the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) for many years until his retirement. His commitment to his work was mirrored in his nurturing relationships with those around him.

Dink was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a testament to his character and dedication to service. He embraced the joys of life through his broad array of interests and hobbies. Dink loved fishing and woodworking, appreciated the thrill of NASCAR, and held a deep affection for animals. However, above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, a bond that shaped his life's happiness.

Dink is survived by his devoted children: William "Buddy" Detenber, Joey Detenber, Cynthia Lang, Jennifer (Mark) Huth, Lisa (James) Eckerty, Angela (Monty) Anderson, Michael (Kim) Benton, and Michelle Brown, along with nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his presence and love. Dink is also remembered fondly by his brother, Robert Detenber, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory in their hearts.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly Detenber, and his parents, William and Pearl Detenber. Dink's legacy of love, dedication, and resilience will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation for William "Dink" Detenber will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150, on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Crandall, Indiana.

The family requests that contributions in Dink’s memory be made to Harrison County Humane Society.
