William D. "Bill" Howell, 80, of New Albany passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Bill was a member of Hope Lodge #1, the I.O.O.F. of New Albany, and the Manzanita Tribe Redman's Club in New Albany. He worked for T. J. Atkins Crushed Stone for 29 years and Liter's Quarry, both in Jeffersonville.
Bill was born on March 7, 1930 in Edwardsville, Indiana to the late Newland "Babe" and Blanche (Detrick) Howell. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Hilma Jane (Quick) Howell; son, Melvin L. Howell, Sr.; brother, Lloyd "PI" Howell; and great grandchild, Tyrone.
He is survived by his daughter, Jane Ann Driscoll and her husband, Jim of Louisville; sons, Dale W. Howell of Louisville and Edward L. Howell of Corydon, Indiana; sisters, Betty L. Horsley Chadwell of Louisville and Mary Meyer of Largo, Florida; grandchildren, Christopher Driscoll and his wife, Nicole, Andrew Driscoll and his wife, Jennifer, Melvin Howell, Jr., and his wife, Angie, Shannon Coomer and her husband, Robert, Michelle Mukes and her husband, Kenneth, Brian Howell, and Michael Caudill and his wife, Paula; 16 great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Howell.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM on Friday, January 28 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN 47150). His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Saturday in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Edwardsville Cemetery in Georgetown, Indiana.
