William Bennett Collett

October 15, 1955 — November 22, 2022

William Bennett Collett, Jr., known to most as "Benny", passed away on the morning of November 22, 2022. He was 67.

Benny was born in Hamilton, Ohio in 1955 to William and Doris Collett. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Georgia State University. After graduation, professional opportunities led him to Pennsylvania, southern Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky, and multiple locales on the east coast of Florida. He was a gifted business mind and was admired and respected by his colleagues during his nearly twenty years as CEO of Florida Gaming Corporation.

Benny's wife Rose was his loving companion of nearly forty years. Together they shared a great love of animals, and Benny's kindness and generosity was apparent in the way that they cared for the animals they rescued. Rose and Benny's was a special relationship, full of love, laughter, friendship, and unwavering care for each other.

One of his favorite names was "Dad", which was given to him by his daughter Katie, and son Kyle, who both adored him - as he did them. Whenever they were together, they were laughing. Throughout their lives, Benny always found hilarious and unorthodox ways to share the lessons of life with Katie and Kyle, and they are both fortunate to have learned from him and inherited his wit and unmatched sense of humor.

Benny loved hearing stories about and sharing pictures of his two granddaughters, Lila and Lennox. He enjoyed music of all kinds, cars and driving, making people laugh, and caring for his friends and family. Benny was incredibly kind, with a huge and loving heart, and he had a unique way of making everyone in his life feel special.

Benny is preceded in death by his mother Doris, and his father Bennett. He is survived by his wife Rose, his children Katie and Kyle, his granddaughters Lila and Lennox, and his Uncle Gene and Aunt Bennie.

"When I could not walk, the kindness of others carried me." He will be greatly and forever missed.
