William F. Butner Jr.
Bill passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday April 7,2009, after a long yet courageous battle against cancer. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Frank A. and Florence A. Gentile and Roberta Gentile and his paternal grandparents James Brent Butner and Lavada M. Butner.
Bill was a graduate of Flaget High School Class of 1973 and the University of Louisville Class of 1992. He has worked in Law Enforcement for 18 years, retiring in 2006. During his tenure with the The Kentucky Department of Corrections Probation and Parole, Bill received many awards and had many outstanding accomplishments including having caught over 1000 fugitives in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Bill was also awarded Correction Officer of the Year in 1991 and received Employee of the Quarter award in 2003 during the months of January through March.
Survivors include Bill's wife and companion of 26 years, Patty G. Bolin Butner; his four daughters: Natalie Anne Butner (Nick Morris ); Jaime Michele Roederer (Stephen); Victoria Leigh Butner and Stephanie Butner; his parents, William F. Sr. and Angela Butner; two sisters, Mary Anne Laird (Rick) and Donna L. Mattingly (Karl Stelly); brother Patrick A. Butner (Kelly). Bill is survived by his beautiful granddaughters who were his world, Alyssa, Aleyna, Rylee and Sienna. Bill had many close family members and friends who fought his fight with him and played a major part in his care, especially his brother-in-law Rick Laird.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009 in the chapel of Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Ky., with visitation 12-7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 10 at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or to Hosparus of Louisville.
