Wesley Mays, Jr.

July 25, 1947 — September 7, 2015

Mr. Wesley Mays Jr., age 68, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 7, 2015, at approximately 1:59 p.m. at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Wesley was born on July 25, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky to the union of Wesley and Artie Bell Pugh Mays, Sr., both parents preceded him in death.
On May 23, 1998, he was united in holy matrimony to Vanessa Cottrell Mays, she survives in Louisville.

Wesley accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lancaster. A graduate of Historical Central High School, he was also a Veteran of the United States Army. He was formerly employed at the Iron Workers Union and recently retired from Naval Ordinance where he had worked for many years. His hobbies were gardening, writing, and he was very fond of music, particularly Jazz.

He was preceded in death by a brother; Kenneth Mays.

Besides his wife, Vanessa he leaves to cherish his precious memory 2 sons, Kenya Mays and Shawn Mays both of Louisville; granddaughter, Diamond; sister, Arnitia Mays Edwards (Arthur) of Lima; 2 brothers- in-law, Wayne Cottrell and Donell Cottrell; 2 sisters-in-law, Hazel Cottrell and Flora Cottrell all of Louisville; 3 nieces, Deanna Mays (Lakeisha Spikner), Danyel Hagens (Patrick) and Maria Perkins (Robert); nephew, Kenneth Edwards (Tameka); first cousin he grew up with Herbert Pugh and his second cousin; Ann Beaumont both of Louisville and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Bethel Baptist Church (3540 Garland Avenue, Louisville, KY) from 10am-12pm with a celebration of Wesley's life beginning at 12pm.

Lord Our Father as you have received another angel into the Heavenly Kingdom, we ask by your grace that Wesley Mays, Jr. love and legacy eases sorrowful hearts into rejoiceful thoughts and feelings with the knowing that there's no more affliction to be had on his behalf. May there be peace with the comfort of his soul and spirit living in a brand new home of God's unconditional, abundant love.
