Walter J. Ertle

Walter J. Ertle, 84, born and raised in New Jersey and retired in Florida, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. He was a United States Navy veteran and a retired Commandant of the New Jersey State Police. Walter was also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany. Walt was an excellent role model, a great mentor, a good friend to many and a wonderful father. He shall remain in our hearts and memories forever.

Walt was born on December 8, 1927 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Alfred and Jenny (Mostyn) Ertle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Began) Ertle, siblings, Alfred Ertle, Veronica Cirelli, and Buddy Ertle.

He is survived by his children, Walter J."Butch" Ertle and his wife, Kara, Maureen Shelhamer, both of Jupiter, FL, and Linda LaPilusa of New Albany, IN; grandchildren, Glen L. Shelhamer, Jr., Marc F. LaPilusa, Gabriella N. LaPilusa, Matthew Ertle, Hunter Ertle, and Cody Ertle.

Visitation will be 12 PM to 2 PM on Thursday, June 30 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 PM on Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany).
