Virginia Cristiani

Virginia "Vinnie" (Piazzolla) Cristiani, 91, of Sellersburg, formerly of Floyds Knobs, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011. A loving wife and mother, Virginia treasured her family and friends. An advocate for young people, she was one of the first teachers of the Floyd County Head Start program and was a member of St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg.

Virginia was born on September 22, 1919 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Damian and Margaret Piazzolla. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Frank Cristiani and sisters, Carmela Anselmo, and Sr. Margaret Ambrosia Piazzolla.

She is survived by her sons, Dan Cristiani (Anne) and Dr. Michael Cristiani (Dr. Theresa); grandchildren, Lora Nichols (David), Daniel (Stacy), Lisa, Kyle, Rachel, Catherine, and Jeff Cristiani; sisters, Jennie Reid, Tomasella Dowie, and Anna Tisheuar; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a Rosary Service at 6 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Hill Building Fund or St. Joseph Hill Youth Ministry (2605 St. Joe Road West, Sellersburg, IN 47172).
