Virginia W. Barker, 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023.
She was born in 1935 in Wehadkee, Alabama to the late Dewey and Sarah (Crouch) Webb.
Virginia loved the Lord with all her heart. She praised the Lord as a member of the church choir and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She ushered at the Kentucky Center for the Arts over 20 years and was a longtime member of the Louisville Free Public Library Book Club in St. Matthews. Virginia was a founding member of the Friendship Force in Louisville, and as a result earned a Kentucky Colonel Commission. She was a graduate of Howard College, now Samford University and earned her Master's Degree from Georgia State University. She then taught as a school teacher for many years.
Virginia is survived by her loving children, Mel L. Barker (Sara Woods), Amy Barker, Julie B. Wise (Rich), the best Nana to her two granddaughters, Sydney Hume (Kevin) and Lauren Wyatt (Trey), four great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Aspen, Liam, and Kaylee. She is also survived by her brother, Gene Webb (Jean), niece, Lori Fitzsimmons (Casey) and nephew, Kendel Webb (Leah).
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 pm/noon on Saturday, January 27, 2024 in the Chapel at Beargrass Christian Church (4100 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40207).
