Vincent J. Schmidt, 92, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2012 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, with his loving family at his side. Vincent was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a long-time member of St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church in Floyds Knobs. He was a retired driver for A&H Truck Lines. A skilled woodworker, he crafted many items for family, friends, and the church. He loved fishing with his family, and his loving heart and gentle ways made him a friend to all.
Vincent was born on October 28, 1919 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana to the late Phillip and Lula Mae (Naville) Schmidt. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Earlyne "Tincy" (Livingston) Schmidt; son, Vincent J. Schmidt, Jr.; sister, Martha Underwood; and brothers, Leo, Cornelius, and Francis Schmidt.
He is survived by his children, Dale Schmidt, Sr. (Nina) of New Salisbury, Indiana, Ann Jones (Chris) of Floyds Knobs, and Susan Kelley (Mike) of Georgetown, Indiana; sister, Evelyn Been (Frank); grandchildren, Michelle Apple (Chris), Krista Uhl (Pat), Nichole Slaughter (Nik), Dale Schmidt, Jr. (Trisha), Hannah Peters (Jimmy), Holly Jones (fiancé-Dalen), Corey Jackson (fiancée-Angela), Sarah Hays (Seth), and Suzanne Alvey (Anthony); great-grandchildren, Adam, Dylan, Caleb, Blake, and Abigail; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His visitation will be 12 to 8 PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, February 2, at St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church followed by burial with military honors at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
