Vincent A. Ritz, 91, of New Albany, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Mercy-Providence Retirement Home. He was a life long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany. Vincent was also a former employee for Reitz Furniture in downtown New Albany and a resident at Westminster Village in Clarksville.
He was a WWII veteran who served proudly with the United States Marine Corps. As a member of the First Marine Division, Vincent saw action at Guadalcanal, New Guinea and several other key campaigns throughout the Pacific during his enlistment.
Vincent was born on April 5, 1921 in New Albany to the late Frank C. and Catherine (Huber) Ritz. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Wall) Ritz; sisters, Catherine Duggins, Jane Roehm, brothers, Carl "Sonny" and Robert "Bobby" Ritz.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Kahl; brother-in-laws, Guy Roehm and Regis Roberts; and generations of nieces and nephews. He was a special uncle and will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
Visitation will be from noon to 4 PM on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church (415 E. Eighth Street, New Albany) with entombment and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
