Vida Leone (Kewley) Champion passed away at her home on Sept 17, 2022.
Born Feb 5, 1935 in Alexandria, South Dakota, Vida was the youngest child of Clarence Edward Kewley and Edna Pearl (Bennett) Kewley of Alexandria, South Dakota. Vida attended Pleasant Hill #3 Elementary School, and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1953.
On May 22, 1956, she married Marvin Ray Champion in Mitchell, South Dakota. After marrying, the couple lived in northern California while Marvin finished his military service in the Navy. In 1958, Marvin took a job in the Denver, Colorado area. Vida worked in food service for 12 years at Northglenn Junior High Middle School, in Northglenn, Colorado.
In 1979, Marvin was transferred to the Kansas City area, where they lived in Olathe, Kansas. In 1997, after 22 years, Vida retired as Assistant Manager of Johnson County Kansas Motor Vehicle Department. Vida and Marvin also owned American Auto Electric in Leavenworth, Kansas until 1997. In 2003, Vida and Marvin moved to Indiana, eventually settling in New Albany, Indiana.
After retirement, Vida and Marvin spent many winters in Casa Grande, Arizona. Vida enjoyed golfing and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Violet Stoltz , Mabel Kayser, Donald Kewley, Loretta Kewley, Dorothy Steilen, LaVina Flanagan, Geneva Kewley, Bernita Tammen, Clarence Kewley, Harold Kewley, Phyllis Gebhart, Claude Kewley, Roland Kewley, Lillian Blankenship, Fern Degen.
She is survived by husband of 66 years Marvin, her son Craig Champion (Val), and daughter Debra Miller (Greg). Grandchildren: Christine Chavez, Daniel Champion (Stephanie) and Derek Miller. She is also survived by a half-sister, Fauna Kappenman of Mitchell, South Dakota.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with her funeral service taking place at 1:00 p.m. Cremation will follow according to Vida's wish. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hosparus - the Community Hospice of Southern Indiana (502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany, IN 47150).
