Vernon Young

Vernon Young, 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. Vernon was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and Nanny. She had a passion for taking care of others, cooking, and helping anyone in need. Vernon will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing and being cared for by her.

She was born on May 29, 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky to Lilly Scott. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lilly Scott; daughter, Rebecca Scott; son, Darrell Scott; sister, Sarah Green; brother, James Henry Scott; and sisters, Juanita Patton and Bernice Woolfolk.

Vernon is survived by her loving family, children, James Scott, Marie Simone Scott, Clark Welch, Harrison Welch, Beth Welch; grandchildren, Vernon Edwina Scott-Horne, Joseph Scott, Isaiah Scott, Darrell Scott, Jr., LaRita Scott, Gary Manica, Shawn Manica, DeNada Dryden, Mayshua Finisson, Renita Finisson; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and one on the way; nephews, Edward "Boo" Green, Tony Green; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish her loving memory forever.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel.
