Vernon K. Gatton

Vernon K. Gatton passed away on November 23, 2024. Born on October 5, 1959, Vernon was known for his vibrant personality and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid bowler and fisherman, and his enthusiasm for these activities was matched only by his fervent support for the Louisville Cardinals, a passion he carried with pride throughout his life.

Vernon's warmth extended to all who had the privilege of knowing him. A social person at heart, he made friends wherever he went, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Gatton; and his three daughters, Wendy Gatton, Mindy Gatton, and Jessica (Jacob) Jones; along with his grandchildren, Xavier (Tatum) Gatton, Elijah Gatton, Isaiah Gatton, Anaiah Gatton, Mascio Russell, Julius Jones, Jaxon Jones, and Jurnee Jones, as well as his great-granddaughter, Gabriella Gatton; and his friend and care-giver, Sidonia Whitehead. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Gatton and Eva Lena Gatton. 

He will be remembered not only for his love of sports and leisure activities but also for the love and laughter he brought to his friends and family. As they gather to celebrate his vibrant life, their hearts will surely be filled with fond memories of the moments they shared.

Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Cremation will follow in accordance with Vernon's wishes.
