Tonye A. Rutherford, 57, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
He was born on July 19, 1965, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Eugene and Joan (Patterson) Rutherford. He is preceded in death by his wife, Leigh Ann Rutherford; father, Eugene A. Rutherford; mother, Joan L. Carter; stepfather, Kenneth Carter; granddaughter, Emmalee Budrevich; and father-in-law, Richard Tinius.
Tonye honorably served in the US Navy from 1983 to 1990. His passion was ministry, serving the Lord with REC and the Emmaus Community. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Tonye is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Acosta) Medrano; son, Brent Swallow; son, Rory (Kelly) Rutherford-Gordon; daughter, Alyssa Mauk; 2 grandchildren, Zoe Mauk & Violet Drouillard; sister, Tonya (Vincent) Rutherford; brother, Andre Rutherford; sister, Kenicia Carter; sister, Princena (Jason) Rakes; sister, Dorothy Carter; sister, Michelle Carter; mother-in-law, Violet Tinius; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Tonye's life will be at Emmaus Road Church, 515 Potters Lane, Clarksville, IN 47129, on Saturday August 6, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with a time of gathering following the service. There will be a private family inurnment at New Albany National Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
