On Tuesday, August 23rd Tommy Lee McCurry passed away at the age of 74. He was born on October 6, 1947 in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Kenneth Howard and Marie (Sizemore) McCurry. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen of 52 years and his brothers James and Danny. He lived in Louisville all of his adult life where he founded and owned Okolona Fence Company for over 50 years, was a member of City Sales Club and was a huge influence with bonsai trees.
Tommy dedicated 40 plus years in the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society serving as President, Vice President, teacher and advisor to many. He owned the only Bonsai Store in the Louisville area for many years. He traveled extensively for bonsai trees and was known to have one of the most prestigious collections in our area. His extensive collection of trees has been donated to the Waterfront Botanical Gardens and will be the focal point of the upcoming Japanese Gardens exhibit.
Tommy is survived by his sisters, Nola Patton, Tina Shephard, Katrina Avis; brother, Michael; sons, Doug (Sherryl), Brian (Missy), Greg (Julie); grandchildren, Brandon, Emily, Elizabeth (Michael) Biggs, Madeline, Allison, Colleen, Sydney; great grandchildren Kadence and Lyra Biggs; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243. A celebration of Tommy's life will be at 11am on Tuesday, August 30th there, with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
