Tim Clifton Oates

Tim Clifton Oates, age 59 of Shelbyville, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Tim was an avid sportsman. He volunteered with 4-H youth for 17 years. He loved teaching archery and all aspects of gun safety. Tim received numerous awards through his volunteering with kids. Tim was a skilled electrician. He was also a strong Christian by faith.

Tim spent his life giving pieces of his heart to so many. He wanted to and was fighting to live, but when he was called home, others now live today because of his decision for organ donation. His eyes will still see this world, his lungs will still exhale and inhale and his blood will pulse through like a river of magic to keep another's heart beating.

Tim is preceded in death by his father, Jack Oates.

Tim is survived by his loving wife, Patti Sullivan Oates; his mother, Anita Oates; twin brother, Tom Oates; sisters, Karen Schmitt (Bryan) and Kim Oates; nieces, Heather, Gwen and Jessica; nephew, Seth; great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-laws, Rosemary, Cathy, Lori and PJ; and his life-long friend, Charlotte Walker; and a host of relatives and friends.

A gathering to celebrate Tim's life will be 4 to 7pm on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial donations be made to 4-H Shooting Sports, P.O. Box 368, Taylorsville, KY 40071-0368 in Tim's name.
