Thomas W. Schmidt, 93, of Jeffersonville, Indiana passed away on April 8, 2014. A World War II U. S. Army veteran, Tom was a lifetime member of VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693. He attended St. Xavier High School in Louisville and went on to work at Fawcett Haynes Printing Co. and retired from the Courier-Journal. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed working puzzles, watching Nascar, and was an extremely talented carpenter. Tom was also a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffersonville.
Tom was born on September 27, 1920 in Louisville to the late Thomas J. and Rosa (Renn) Schmidt. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Schmidt; and great-grandson, Myles Buckingham.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine I. (Coyle) Schmidt; daughters, Denise Hagan (Mike), Mary Cissell (Randy); grandchildren, Leah Cissell (fiancé Brendan Kelly), David Cissell, David Hagan (Stephanie), Amy Buckingham (Tim); and great-grandchildren, Adriana, Joleigh, and Hagan.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A rosary will be prayed Thursday at 3 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with burial and military honors to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
