Thelma L. Borders Jordan, 88, born October 8, 1935 passed away March 1, 2024 at her residence in Louisville, Ky. Thelma was born to Emma L. Menges Borders and Joseph V. Borders in Louisville, Ky.
Thelma graduated from DuPont Manual High School in 1954, then attended Western Kentucky University for a year before transferring to the University of Louisville, where she was initiated into Chi Omega. Thelma graduated from the University of Louisville in 1978, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She earned a Master of Education degree in 1981, also from the University of Louisville. Thelma had a long, successful, fulfilling career as a Special Education teacher at Fern Creek High School in Louisville. Her dedication to her students earned her honors and awards including Teacher of the Year. After retirement, Thelma and Al moved to Port Charlotte, Florida in 2000.
In 2004, Thelma and her daughter, Rebecca, opened a small private school, The Jordan Center for Learning, in Port Charlotte, Fl. The school served students with learning disabilities until it closed in 2009. In 2010, Thelma and her husband, Albert, returned to Louisville, KY to be closer to family and friends. In addition to education, Thelma loved art, interior design, reading, travelling the world, creating delicious meals, playing Bridge, and gardening. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Menges Borders and Joseph V. Borders; her brother, Donald J. Borders; her husband, Albert M. Jordan; and her grandson, Hunter M. Jordan.
Thelma is survived by her sister, Joan L. Borders; her children, Rebecca L. Jordan, Matthew A. Jordan (Julie), and David M. Jordan (Jill); her grandchildren, Kendall E. Jordan (Tristan) and Paxton J. Jordan. She is also survived by extended family including cousins, nieces, a nephew, and her beloved rescue dog, Bow.
A memorial service with private internment following will be held at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 N Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, Kentucky 40160 at 1:30pm on Friday, April 26, 2024.
