Thelma L. (Phillips) Hammond, 85, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Azalea Hills in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. A long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany, Thelma was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3281 Ladies' Auxiliary. She loved flowers and tending to her garden. Devoted to her family, she supported her grandchildren in all they did.
Thelma was born on November 10, 1927 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late James Phillips and Christine (Lang) Phillips. She is also preceded in death by her husband, John L. Hammond, and sister, Mary Higgins.
She is survived by her daughters, Suzi Deem (Patrick), Tina Walts (Stephen), and Lisa Koetter (Bruce); sister, Minnie Beyl; grandchildren, Patrick, Jr., and Brian (Erin) Deem, Shannon (Rick) Metcalf), Stephen Walts, Jr. (Lauren), Elizabeth Andres (Richie), Kristina Misamore (Travis), and Jake Koetter; nine great grandchildren; niece, Laura Crowley (Chuck); and great niece, Caitlin Crowley.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 PM on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a Rosary Service at 4 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church (129 West Daisy Lane, New Albany) with burial to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in New Albany.
