Thelma Katherine (Ellenbrand) Stumler

Thelma Katherine (Ellenbrand) Stumler, 99, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Azalea Hills with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Thelma was born in a cabin in New Albany township, just outside the then New Albany city limits, to the late Arthur F. "Fred" and Minnie (Meriwether) Ellenbrand.
She is also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph F. Stumler; grandson, Matthew Pinnick; and her siblings, Edgar Ellenbrand, Loretta Ellenbrand, Helen Sacrey, Mildred Harding, and Mary Francis (Babe) Webber.
Thelma is survived by her family whom she loved dearly: her daughters, Janet Burke (David), Charlotte, North Carolina, Jean Loi (Marvin), New Albany, Indiana, Marilyn Pinnick (Joe), Greenwood, Indiana; her grandchildren, Mark Burke (Karen), Lynn Hillman, Brian Burke (Elizabeth), Amy Springer (Mark), Angela Gibson (Kevin), Michael Loi (Krong), and Beth Seal (Andrew); and 11 great-grandchildren.
Thelma was a 72-year member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, volunteering for bingo, having membership in the Christian Mothers, and working in the school cafeteria. She loved sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, and mowing the grass. After many years as a homemaker, she worked at the Jeffersonville Census Bureau, where she meticulously mapped for 20 years. In retirement, she coach-traveled with her husband all over the country. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday July 29, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane). Her Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, 5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, Indiana, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
