Thelma A. (Boyd) French, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, June 1, 2012 after a brief battle with breast cancer. She was the mother of Charlotte Owens Lee, who named historic Freedom Hall in 1956. She was a retired Jefferson County School Guard, an avid bowler for fifty years, loved playing cards and loved her bingo. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles R. French, daughter Charlotte Owens Lee, parents James and Flora Boyd, brothers and sister-in-laws Henry (Dixie), Bob and Frank (Joyce).
Mrs. French is survived by her daughter Carla, son-in-law Joe and granddaughter Jessica Newton, with whom she lived and who cared for her; daughter, Myra Owens Strohl (Gary); granddaughter, Michelle Jenkins (Carl); five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margie and Randy French; many nieces and nephews and the Newton family.
Funeral ceremony will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home 3 – 8 p.m. Monday, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until time of service.
