Teri Lorraine Flener, 69, born on February 18, 1955, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on November 10, 2024.
A woman of diverse interests, Teri frequently sought out new experiences with her friends and family. She enjoyed traveling, whether it was out West to see loved ones, going on a cruise, visiting Disney World, watching Nascar races, or spending time at casinos – one of the Flener family’s favorite pastimes. She loved bringing people together at annual Kentucky Derby parties, and was a proud multi-time winner of the Jack Foster Award (which should be familiar to those who attended). Teri loved reading and daily crossword puzzles, and was almost always seen with turquoise jewelry and red nails.
Her love for reading led her to a bookstore in St. Matthews, where she met her devoted husband of 28 years, Todd Taylor. They celebrated their marriage in Las Vegas, and welcomed their daughter Faith Catherine Taylor the following year. She was a caring step-mother to Victoria Taylor Baber, her son-in-law Josh, and her granddaughters Skylar and Bayley.
Teri went to Corydon Central High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University Southeast, where she was a member of the Indiana Zeta chapter of the Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society. She set a lifelong example by becoming the first person in the family to earn a college degree. Throughout her life, she remained dedicated to education and an unwavering work ethic, attributes that resonated not only in her professional career but also in her personal endeavors.
Teri dedicated over 35 years of service to the Federal Government, beginning her career at the Census Bureau. Her journey continued with the Veterans Administration and culminated as a Realty Specialist at the Army Corps of Engineers, where she made a lasting impact. Her community involvement was notable, as evidenced by her membership in the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (Piankeshaw Chapter), the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and Federally Employed Women.
Teri is survived by her husband, Todd; her daughter, Faith; her step-daughter, Victoria (Josh); her brother, Odell "Duke" Flener (Peggy); and her grandchildren, Skylar and Bayley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Odell Flener and Betty Faith Flener, and her infant sister, Odella Flener.
Teri Lorraine Flener will be remembered for her professional accomplishments and love for learning, her excitement to see and experience the world, and most importantly, the love and joy she brought to her family and friends. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Corydon.
