Sylvia Southers, 73, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Sylvia was a member of Howard Chapel Missionary Church in New Albany, Indiana and a volunteer for Kentucky Center for the Arts. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, and most importantly spending time with family and friends.

Sylvia was born on June 3, 1950, in New Albany, Indiana, to Joseph and Mercile (Bailey) Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bennett Smith.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard L. Southers; daughter, Sicely L. Southers; step-son, Richard L. Casey; grandchildren, Savion, Shanelle, Aaliyah, and Xavier; great grandchild, Zy'ere; two sisters, Joan (Michael) Collier and Bernetta White; and brother, Patrick (Sandra) Smith.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Howard Chapel Baptist Church, (1715 E Market St). Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Howard Chapel Baptist Church with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
