Susan Miller was born Susan Marie Searer on Monday June 5, 1944 in South Bend, Indiana to Russell Floyd and Marguerite Searer. Susan had a brother Russell who pre deceased her many years prior. Susan was raised in a loving home and went to St. Mary's Academy for girls where she graduated high school. Following this she attended Ball State Teachers College in Muncie, Indiana where she obtained a bachelor's of science degree in physical therapy. She obtained her masters degree from Indiana University in rehab therapy. Her first job was at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
She relocated to her home town of South Bend a few years later and worked for St. Joseph Medical Center in South Bend where she continued her therapy career. She re-married in 1980 and moved to Cassopolis, Michigan where she worked in home health care for about 7 years while living on Diamond Lake there. She raised her son Joshua and in 1985 gave birth to her second child Russell.
Susan enjoyed water sports, including water skiing, snow skiing, and racket ball. She belonged to the St. Joseph Valley Ski Club and traveled with her husband George to northern Michigan when possible for weekend ski events. She also enjoyed staying at her parents' log cabin near the Little Manistee River close to Camp Grayling, Michigan. There she enjoyed tubing down the river and enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings of the great outdoors. Her father Floyd would sit around the cabin at night telling family stories and always gave support to all who knew him. Susan relocated to Louisville, Kentucky in 1986 and continued her therapy career.
She loved to coach and assist her boys Josh and Russell in their school sports programs. She enjoyed helping many youth and mentored many. During her life she was a member of the the Delta Zeta Sorority, the Harrods's Creek Boat Owners Association, was a past member of The Pendennis Club, and the Louisville Yacht Club. She also was a part owner of a thoroughbred race horse and attended many races a Chuchill Downs. She also was a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution (DAR). Her father Floyd, a prominent attorney in South Bend, Indiana Spent over several decades researching Susan's genealogy, tracing her family ties to their Pennsylvania Dutch Mennonite roots, finding the key link to Christian Herr who fought for his new country's freedom as a member of the Pennsylvania Militia. Susan's son Russell is also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).
Susan took pride in the accomplishments of her boys Joshua and Russell and showed much love and affection to all who knew her. She leaves behind her two sons Joshua and Russell, her former spouses Barry King of Louisville, George Miller of Lombard, Illinois, and many friends among whom she cherished her closeness to dear friend Nancy Noble of Louisville, Janet Cook of Louisville,Troy Brown and Jana Brizendine of Prospect, who all were there for her after she lost her battle with cancer recently. Susan leaves a legacy of love, kindness and compassion that will be missed by all who knew her. May God rest her soul and number her among the just as she begins her next journey. Well done Susan, you made your family proud!
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243). Her funeral service will be at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
