Sue Ann Browning, 83, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully and went home on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
She was born on November 6, 1939 in Louisville and was raised in the Portland community where she grew up working in the family grocery store. As a teenager she trusted Jesus and was baptized into the Portland Avenue Church of Christ family. She graduated from Portland Christian High School and became the first college graduate in her family when she graduated from the University of Louisville. She then became an elementary school teacher, teaching at Kenwood, Coral Ridge, and Tully elementary schools. She also greatly enjoyed teaching children at Portland Avenue Church of Christ during Sunday School, Children's Church, and VBS. She was known as a kind, creative, and fun teacher to her many students and family members. She used her beautiful singing voice to sing in several groups including the Louisville Singers. She was a kind, loving, and patient mother and wife to her son and husband. She also graciously shared these amazing traits with many of her son's friends. She was an amazing and loving grandmother who loved every second she spent with her granddaughters! She even helped to teach both Katie and Megan how to read. She will be remembered for these and many other things, but many will remember her for her great love of fancy hats, soup, anything beautiful, and singing praises to God!
She was preceded in death by her mother, Theta May Pipes; step-father, Chet Pipes; father, Edward L. Herdt; siblings, Jo Ann Weinberger, Eddie Herdt, and Johnny Herdt.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of almost 56 years, Lloyd William Browning, Jr.; Son, Lloyd William (Shelly) Browning, III; granddaughters, Katie Browning and Megan Browning, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends who will cherish her loving memory forever.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Portland Ave Church of Christ, (2500 Portland Ave). Her Funeral Service will be at 4:00 pm on Sunday, at Portland Ave Church of Christ with cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Portland Ave Church of Christ, 2500 Portland Ave. Louisville, KY 40212, or to Portland Christian School, 8509 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40242, in Sue's memory.
