Steven Lawrence Todd

March 12, 1953 — March 23, 2023

Steven Lawrence Todd returned to the arms of our heavenly Father on March 23, 2023. Steve was born on March 12, 1953, in Georgetown, Kentucky. He grew up in the Beechmont neighborhood in the south end of Louisville. Steve graduated from Iroquois High School, class of 1971, where he was a star basketball player. It was also where he met his high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years Sherry Benson, class of 1972. During this time Steve honed his basketball skills by attending the Adolph Rupp basketball camp where he was chosen to play in pickup games during free time by the then current UK basketball players such as Mike Pratt and Dan Issel. He paid for this camp by saving his money he earned as a paper boy. Unfortunately, a severe knee injury requiring surgery ended his basketball dreams of playing college basketball.

Steve attended Indian River Community College in Florida and finished his bachelor's degree at the University of Louisville. He obtained a job at Trinity High School where he worked his way up from computer lab supervisor to the Director of IT. Steve retired from Trinity in 2019 with 23 years of service.

Steve was accepted into Free Masonry as a Master Mason in 1988, Abraham Lodge #8 and served in 1992 as their Master. Steve was a former member of Christ Evangelical Church on Barret and Breckenridge where he taught Sunday School and was an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 234. He and his wife Sherry sponsored the church's youth group and started a "Friday Night Hangout" at the church gym to give the Smoketown youth a safe and fun place to go.

Steve was always looking for ways to help his community. During the blizzard of 1994, he helped to dig a heliport on the parking lot of Southeast Christian Church (Hikes Lane) so a little girl could be transported to get her organ transplant as well as using his 4-wheel drive Jeep to deliver medicine and groceries to those snowed in. He helped save the life of a man working next door who punctured an artery in his arm chopping wood by using his Boy Scout first aid training to apply pressure to the wound until EMS arrived.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, William R. Todd, Sr.; mother, Vivian Carter Todd; grandparents Homer and Hazel Carter; Hugh B. and Geneva Todd; sister Sarah Whitaker Force; brother William (Skip) R. Todd, Jr.; aunts Patsy Wheeler and Peggy Mackney; and uncle H. B. Todd. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; his sons Carter Todd and Aaron Todd; his granddaughter, Taylor Todd (who was the apple of his eye); nieces Jaime Barr Roberts (Koby); Kristie Benson Kane; Kendal Benson (Robert); nephews A.J. Saucier and Wally Benson; Matthew Benson (Karen); brothers-in-law Chuck Benson (Sandi), Kevin Benson (Sheila), and Gary Benson; his aunt Juanita Todd; and several great nieces and nephews.
