Steven Beck was born Stefan Beck on March 29, 1943 to John (Janos) and Matilda Beck in Austria. The Becks left their war stricken village and migrated to the US in 1951 with the help of Catholic Charities. Steven's work ethic was developed at a young age when he and the family worked as indentured servants to repay their debt of coming to the states. After moving to Detroit, Michigan for his teenage years, Steven joined the United States Army. He was a Vietnam veteran and stationed all over including: Fort Campbell, Korea, Germany, Spain, Italy and Fort Knox. Steven retired from the Army after 20 years active duty. Steven was married in 1968 to the love of his life, Virginia Ann Beck before her untimely passing in 2004. Steven later retired from the United States Postal Office.
Throughout his life, his passions included: fishing, cooking, gardening and manicuring his perfect lawn. Everyone will remember and miss his infectious laugh, his ability to scare anyone straight with his look, the sense of security he provided, his giving heart, his ability to fix anything, stubbornness and loudest claps and whistles in any volleyball gym.
Left to cherish his love and memory are his loving family, daughters, Lisa (Bryan) Gowin, Christina (Drew) Glass, Katie (Max) Sharp; best friend, Rita Chambers; sister, Louise (Dieter) Busch; grandchildren, Morgan (Olivia) Darling, Connor Gowin, Simon Sharp, Rory Sharp, Madi Sharp; nephew, Tim (Julie) Busch; dog, Myles; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
The family requests that contributions in Steven's memory be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.
