Stephen Kenneth Lewis, Sr.

April 4, 1951 — September 12, 2023

Stephen Kenneth Lewis, Sr. was born on April 4, 1951, to the late Alice K. Johnson and Edward H. Lewis of Maysville, Kentucky.

He departed this life at home September 12, 2023. Stephen gave his life to the Lord, Jesus Christ, October 27, 1977, where he was a faithful member at Valley View Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

He became a greeter on Sunday mornings at church and on Saturday mornings he joined a Men's Prayer Group. He was an employee at Norfolk/Southern Railroad for 39 years and retired in January 2015.

Stephen was united in matrimony to Portia L. Kane on December 13, 1975, where they shared their lives together for 48 years until his death. God blessed them with 2 children; a daughter, Staci D. Lewis, a son, Stephen K. Lewis, Jr. (Tracy); 3 beautiful grandchildren, Maryam Gordon, Brooklynn D. Lewis and Stephen K. Lewis III. He has 3 sisters, Lyda Lewis, Sharon Austin, Linda Cummins; 2 brothers, John and Victor Lewis, Aunt Rosebud Dudley, a mother-in-law, who he deeply loved, Edith L. Kane (Mother Edith), a special sister-in-law, Virginia Kane (Gin) who helped care for him.

Stephen may be gone, but will never be forgotten. His memory will always be cherished by his loving and dedicated wife, Portia, who was his priceless care giver until his death, and by his 2 children, 3 grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

During our difficult time with his illness, Stephen never lost hope and faith in God. One goal he did finish was to read the whole Bible within a year's time. Each new day began with thanking God for another day of life, reading his devotional book, "Upper Room", and listening to praise and worship music.

Some of Stephen's passions were old and new cars, car racing, trains, watching old cowboy and action movies, world history, and the most important was to be a blessing to people and share the word of God to everyone he would meet.

Portia wants to personally thank Mama, Ginny, Amedisys Hospice Care, New Chapel EMS, dearest friends, A.B. & Judy Deany, Larry & Sharlett Peercy, Valley View Church Family, Prayer Warriors, Linda Harris, Chris Phillips & Family, Nurse Sweet Tammy, Nurse Kara, our dear neighbors, Jace, Cris & Anna Sanlin, Toyota-Shawn and Russell, Mama Gussie, Aunt Claudette, Monica, and all others who showed all acts of kindness and thoughtfulness and love during this difficult time in our lives. May God bless you all!

Finally, Maryam, Brooklynn, Stevie III, what a blessing and honor he felt when you three chose to call him Grandfather. His heart was full of joy when he heard that word, Grandfather. He would always say, "Guess what my grandchildren call me? Grandfather," with a big smile on his face! Everyone would smile and laugh and say, "Oh, so proper they are."
