Stephen Philip Kochert, 81, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Steve dedicated his professional life as a retiree from Bell South and later served in the Media Department at the Floyd County Public Library. His commitment to community was evident through his many years as the leader of Boy Scout Troop 36, as well as his devoted involvement with both Holy Family and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Churches.
Born on May 2, 1943, in Bradford, Indiana, Steve was the son of Joseph and Leona (Fessel) Kochert. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, June (Tanner) Kochert; children, Brian Kochert (Laura) and Elizabeth Kochert, as well as his cherished granddaughter, Emma Dawn Kochert. He will be missed by his siblings, Lawrence Kochert (Barbara Ann), Ronald Kochert (Marty), and Jane Timberlake (Doug), along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation for Steve will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and will continue on Friday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany) followed by burial and military honors at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
