Stephen Eugene Kannapel

Stephen Eugene Kannapel, 71, of Sellersburg, Indiana, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 8, 2023. Steve was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. Steve was a machinist by trade and was a member of Machinist Union Local #681 for 45 years. He was great at fixing and building things and enjoyed helping neighbors and friends. He always had a project going and only took breaks to attend to his daughters' and grandkids' sporting events and extracurricular activities. You could always count on Steve to be there when you needed a hand or a saw. He was a servant to all in need.

He was born on January 24, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Merlin and Helen (Reagan) Kannapel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Louise Miller and Shirley Ann McDonald.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Batliner) Kannapel; daughters, Lisa (Greg) Forte, Katie Jones, and Kelly (Terry) Taylor; brother, Thomas (Priscilla) Kannapel; grandchildren, Zoie Jones, Ava Jones, Lily Taylor, Austin Taylor, Tyler Forte, Sawyer Forte, and Kenna Gross; and many other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
