Stephen Francis Huggard, III, age 79 of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Steve was born in Brooklyn, New York son of Stephen and Anne (Shanley) Huggard. He grew up on Long Island, New York graduating from Bishop Loughlin High School.
He then attended St. Louis University, graduating with Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Science. He joined the Navy in 1961 and graduated from Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL. Following that, he was stationed in Memphis, Hawaii, Naval Air Development Center, Warminster, PA, where he met his wife Bonnie and to whom he has been married for 52 years. Then to Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, Naval Air Station Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA and lastly returning to San Diego to North Island as a Nuclear Weapons Training Officer. Subsequent to his active duty he spent another seventeen years in the Naval Reserves retiring as Commander.
Steve left active duty and attended Law School in San Diego, worked in private practice for several years, then was employed as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County for seventeen years, from which he retired in 2007. His ultimate love however was the study of, and teaching of God's word. His love of the Lord, and his penchant to teach to all whom would listen was to explain in very great detail everything about the Bible - it's significance, and its message of a loving and omniscient God, as well as its historical, geographical and philosophical aspects. That was Steve's passion and his chosen mission, and his greatest joy, to his very last day on this earth. In the eyes of his family he was a very remarkable man and he will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Francis Huggard, Jr. and Anne Shanley Huggard; and his daughter, Jennifer Doreen (Huggard) Oschip.
Family members celebrating his life include his wife Bonnie Jeanne; and his daughter, Rachael Anne (Huggard) Holden. Celebrating also are his grandchildren Jessica M. (Oschip) Collier of San Diego, Corporal C. Hunter Holden, USMC, Sarah M. Holden and Nolan F. Holden, all of Louisville, KY. Steve is also survived, by his brother, David Huggard and David's wife Jane Bollinger of Pompton, PA.; his sister, Sarah (Huggard) Nerad of San Francisco; and nephew Richard Huggard of Port Elizabeth, South Africa; and a host of friends.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm Monday, January 14, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown. A celebration of Steve's life will be 11 am Tuesday, January 15th at Hikes Point Christian Church 2601 Hikes Ln, Louisville, KY 40218. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
