Stanley E. "Stan" Davis, Sr., 79, of Elizabeth, Indiana passed away on December 15, 2010 at home with his family at his side. Stan served as a U.S. Army tank commander during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elizabeth and was saved on August 14, 2010. Stan was a groundskeeper for over 25 years at Big Springs Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky and loved hunting and spending time with his family.
Stan was born on April 23, 1931 in Triadelphia, West Virginia to the late Reister V. and Dorothy (Smith) Davis. He was recently preceded in death by his wife of over 44 years, Della G. (Noble) Davis.
Stan is survived by his sons, Stanley E. "Ed" Davis, Jr. and his wife, Rehonna of Elizabeth, Indiana, David "Duke" Davis and his wife, Donna, Lonnie G. Davis and his wife, Kim, all of New Albany, Indiana; daughter, Trudy A. Coy and her husband, Roger of New Albany; brother, Virgil R. Davis of Elm Grove, West Virginia; sisters, Esther J. Thompson of Willing, West Virginia, Clara Howard of Bartos, Florida, and Ella Mae Bowen of California; ten grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday, December 18, 2010 and 1 to 6 PM on Sunday, December 19 at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN 47150). The Funeral Service will be at 10 AM Monday, December 20, 2010 in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth with military honors.
