Stallard V. McCoomer was born on May 4, 1948 in Middletown, Kentucky. He was the second born to the union of Stallard V. McCoomer, Sr. and Etta Mae Hunter McCoomer. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, 2 brothers and his parents. He departed this life on September 9, 2015 at his home after a courageous fight with his illness. He accepted Christ at an early age at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend Bishop, and then later joined First Baptist Church in Jeffersontown under Reverend Thurmond Coleman. Stallard attended Eastern High School and the Lincoln Institute. He served in the military in the Army and was stationed in Germany. With his late brother Marvin McCoomer, he belonged to the Street Burners Motorcycle Club and started the Derby City CB Club. He owned and operated the Neighborhood Video Store. He was blessed with the talent of being able to do all types of carpentry and could fix and repair anything. His accomplishments included working at International Harvester for a number of years and he also owned and operated his own tractor trailer.
His hobbies were talking on his CB radio, gardening, fishing, landscaping and RVing with his grandchildren and family. He was a loving husband, father and devoted grandfather, known as "PawPaw".
Stallard was united in marriage to Geraldine "Gerri" Wordlow McCoomer on June 27, 1970 and they celebrated 45 years together. They were blessed with two sons, Tyrone McCoomer and Damon McCoomer (Susan). Also left to cherish his memories are three grandchildren, Lydia, Kayla and Trey McCoomer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 1-6pm Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, and 10a.m. – 1p.m. on Monday, September 14th at First Baptist Church, 10600 Watterson Trail in Jeffersontown. Service will be at the church at 1pm followed by burial in Middletown Historic Cemetery.
