Shirley Ann (Alvey) Whitaker

Shirley Ann (Alvey) Whitaker, 92, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024. She was a former member of St. John's Catholic Church in Bradenburg, Kentucky, and a current member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Bradford.

She was born on June 15, 1931, in Louisville, to Charles and Mary (Vowels) Alvey. Along with her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Whitaker, Jr.; and sister, Rose Thompson.

Shirley is survived by her children, Jim Whitaker III (Nancy), Marilyn Crumbo (Keith), Joseph "Russell" Whitaker (Shelly); brothers, John Alvey, Bernard Alvey (Brenda); 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Michael Catholic Church (11400 Farmers Lane, NE, Bradford, IN 47124) with her funeral mass being celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
