Shirley Ann Phillips, aged 85, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 17 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love as a devoted mother, cherished Ga-Ga, beloved Granny, and caring sister.
Shirley's nurturing spirit was exemplified in her profound ministry to others, especially through her remarkable culinary talents. To many, she was a mother figure, generously embracing all who crossed her path, regardless of their connection to her. Her dedication extended beyond family; she was a former union stewardess at the Indiana Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, Indiana, where she advocated for her colleagues with grace and tenacity. A passionate supporter of the University of Louisville Cardinals, Shirley proudly held season tickets for over 48 years, exemplifying her unwavering loyalty to her team.
Born on June 2, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late John and Maggie (Overall) Lee, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William S. "Teddy" Phillips, Sr., and her dear siblings: Bernice Woodall, John Woodall, Eula Lee, Charles Lee, Estelle Easton, and Earl Marshall Whitten.
Shirley's loving family remains to honor her memory, including her children: Tanya (Joseph) McFadden, William (Jacquelyn) Phillips, Jr., Cynthia Scott, Lori Moore, Janet (Harvey) Powell, LaDonna Cowden, Ashley Phillips, Britney Phillips, and Whitney Cureton. She was a proud grandmother to 37 grandchildren and a treasured great-grandmother to 29 great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by sisters-in-law LaDonna Branch, Evelyn Weathers, Rosemary Jones, and Shirley Duncan, brother-in-law James Phillips, devoted caregiver Linda Clayton, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s remarkable life will be announced at a later date. She will be laid to rest privately beside her husband at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.
Shirley Ann Phillips will be deeply missed, but her spirit and love will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her.
