SCHUENGEL, SHIRLEE MAE, 92, of Louisville, passed away Monday October 1, 2012 at Oaklawn Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Shirlee was a former medical secretary and the retired Director of Volunteer Services at Methodist Evangelical Hospital (Norton-Downtown). A women of extraordinary faith and drive, she was a proud member of Epiphany United Methodist Church for 43 years and a devoted volunteer for numerous organizations including the Beechmont Women's Club and Louisville Free Public Library (Downtown).
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Jules P. Schuengel; sisters Blanche Duffy and Myrtle Turner; and brother Spencer Monroe. Matriarch, mentor, world traveler and four-time cancer survivor Shirlee was the final family member of the 'greatest generation.' Her survivors rejoice her many sacrifices and their heavenly reunion.
She is survived by daughters Ann M. Allen (Bob) and Susan R. Schuengel (Jim); son James P. Schuengel (Galenda); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Mom, the enduring presence of your love erases the pain of your passing. The family would like to thank Oaklawn Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate and professional care.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday October 5, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243 with visitation one hour preceding the service.
