Sherman L. Kallin Sr. , 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024.
He was born on March 6, 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Fred and Roma (Tarter) Kallin . Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his step mom, Ruby Tucker Kallin, siblings, Harold Kallin, Kenny Kallin, Shirley Rogers, Ruth Morrison, Betty Burris and Katie Kallin.
Sherman is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jo Kallin, children, Pamela Johnson, Sherman L. (Beth) Kallin, Jr., Robert Kallin and Barry Kallin, grandchildren, Stephanie (Nick) Wood, Kyle Kallin, Whitney (Melvin) Bing, Nick (Dana) Johnson, Ben (Jeriann) Kallin, Jeffrey (Alisa) Kallin, Autumn (Devan) Segvich and Adam Kallin, great grandchildren, Jaden Bing, Brooklynn Bing, Camden Johnson, Alex Johnson, Danilee Kallin, Jazmine Freeman, Johnna Probus, Rocco Probus, Khloe Wood, Elliot Segvich, Easton Segvich, Kenley Segvich, Kali Segvich, Aliyah Segvich and Clarity Kallin, great great grandson, Silas, his sisters, Martina Elmore, Beverly (Charlie) Coffey, Marilyn (Bill) James and
Ruby Leslie, his uncle, Bob Tucker, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him very much.
Sherman proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War; stationed on the U.S.S. Valley Forge Air Craft Carrier. He was a 1994 graduate of the University of Louisville; receiving his Bachelors in Education. Sherman was a member of the Masonic Suburban Lodge #740 and the Order of Eastern Star Fairdale Chapter. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was a long time member of Prairie Village United Methodist Church. He was a hardworking man; working for American Air Filter FAMCO Division for 26 years and teaching at the KY State Reformatory for 15 years. After retirement Sherman and his wife, Jo made home made soap; traveling around to various art and craft shows around Kentucky selling soap. Sherman had a heart of gold and loved talking to and meeting new people; he never met a stranger. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love and strong faith that will be carried on by the ones that loved him the most; his family.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28th at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
