Shelby Lee Turner was born March 7, 1937 in Huntsville, Alabama, the second born of Leo and Lorene Turner. At a young age he enjoyed fishing and building things. He also loved being a caddy at the local golf course. Upon graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he remained until being discharged 2 years later.
Shelby then moved to Louisville, Kentucky and went to vocational school to become a welder. He was hired and worked for International Harvester as a welder. He then met and married Rochella Meaux in 1966 and had 2 children. After retiring he worked for Avis Rent A Car for 27 years. He was an avid golfer, winning a hole in one during a tournament.
Shelby is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Lorene Turner; and his brothers, James Turner and Milton Pettis.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Rochella; children, Deanna Turner and Cheryl Stone; brother, Leo Turner; his nephews and nieces; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newcomer, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). A funeral ceremony will follow the visitation that day at 1:00 pm.
