Sheila Ann "Sassy" Cochran

Sheila Ann "Sassy" Cochran, 47, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away at Norton's Hospital on January 9, 2025. She graduated from New Albany High School. Sheila was a model as a teenager and young adult. She also had her cosmetology license. She loved life and was a fighter. Sheila was a 3 time cancer survivor and even fought this last fight longer than the doctors expected because God had other plans. She would give you the shirt off her back. Sheila had a big heart and she was the caretaker and mother figure to so many. She will be deeply missed.

She was born on August 2, 1977 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Raymond Richard "Ricky" and Sheila Ann Cochran. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Jean Cochran "Mom and Granny"; brother, Raymond Richard Cochran, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Charles Sanders.

Sheila is survived by her 2 daughters, Chaunacey Cochran and Ricki Payne; 3 step-sons, Sergio, Stephon Jr., and Stedman Sanders; her 2 sisters, Misti and Wanda Kidwell; 3 sister-in-laws, Martha, Charlene, and Cheryl Sanders; a brother-in-law, Nathaniel Sanders; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She also had a close friend that she considered to be her birthday twin, Glenn "Slim" Marshall; and her close friend and power of attorney, Stephon Sanders. 

Cremation was chosen and a reception of family and friends will be from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the VFW Post 3281 (232 E 5th St, New Albany, IN 47150). A small service will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and food will be served while family and friends visit until 6:00 pm.
